Easy Load ELT & Catrike Dumont Compatibility: FAQ
Common questions about using the Easy Load ELT Standard to transport a Catrike Dumont. For the full breakdown, see our compatibility deep dive.
Can the Easy Load ELT Standard carry a Catrike Dumont?
Yes. The Catrike Dumont weighs approximately 43 lbs, well within the Easy Load ELT Standard's 85-lb maximum payload. As a tadpole-style trike, the Dumont fits the ELT's supported trike category, which also includes D trikes, handcycles, and the Catrike 559.
How much does the Catrike Dumont weigh?
The Catrike Dumont weighs approximately 43 lbs with standard components and accessories. This figure is consistent across major Catrike dealer spec sheets, though we recommend confirming with your dealer if your unit has non-standard add-ons.
What is the maximum payload of the Easy Load ELT Standard?
The Easy Load ELT Standard has a maximum payload of 85 lbs. For a standard Catrike Dumont (~43 lbs), that leaves roughly 40 lbs of margin for accessories or a heavier trike variant.
Can I use the Easy Load ELT with a Catrike Dumont eCAT (electric)?
The Dumont eCAT adds a motor and battery on top of the standard frame weight, which increases the total weight carried on the rack. Because the added weight varies by battery and motor configuration, we recommend confirming your specific eCAT's total weight against the ELT's 85 lb payload limit before purchasing. Contact All Around E-Bikes and we can help you check fit for your exact setup.
Do I need a special hitch to use the Easy Load ELT?
Yes. The Easy Load ELT Standard requires a 2" receiver hitch on the transporting vehicle. It is not compatible with smaller 1.25" receivers without an adapter.
What ground clearance do I need at the hitch?
Your vehicle's 2" receiver hitch needs at least 16" of ground clearance. If your vehicle has less than that, a hitch riser is required, and the riser must be secured with a second Hitch Tite to prevent movement.
How many ramps come with the Easy Load ELT Standard?
The standard ELT ships with two 5' ramps with ramp extensions. A three-ramp version (ELT-3R) is also available if you'd prefer additional stability while loading.
Can I load my Catrike Dumont onto the ELT by myself?
Yes. The ELT's ramp system is designed for solo loading—you roll the trike up the ramps at a gradual incline rather than lifting it, then secure it with the built-in wheel chocks and tie-down straps. This is one of the main advantages of a ramp-loading carrier over a lift-style rack for a 40+ lb trike.
Do I need to remove the Easy Load ELT when I'm not carrying a trike?
No. The ELT folds vertically when unloaded, so it can stay mounted on your vehicle's hitch between trips.
Will the Easy Load ELT work with a large motorhome?
No. Per the manufacturer, the Easy Load ELT is not suitable for large motorhomes due to the distance between the rear axle and the vehicle's hitch box.
What's included with the Easy Load ELT Standard?
The Standard ELT includes one Receiver Hitch Insert, one Ramp Support "T," two 5' ramps with ramp extensions, four ramp spacers, one electrical light connector Power to lights is supplied through either a flat four-pin or a round seven-blade connector, and the hardware needed to install the system on your vehicle.
Is the Easy Load ELT made in the USA?
Yes, the Easy Load ELT is American-made.
